January, 2009 Newsletter

As we look into the beginning of the year 2009 it may take a little more effort to be optimistic. Watching the news sure doesn’t cheer us up or make us feel good. With a little effort I think we can still find a reason to smile. I just filled my pickup tank the other day and had to smile at how little it cost compared to last summer. If you had told me 6 months ago we would have the gas prices we have today, I would have thought you had lost your mind. Who knows – maybe the economy will also get better sooner than anyone thinks?? For now I am just glad that I don’t make vehicle payments. Ours are all members of the 100,000 + mile club but run just fine. Our old farm house keeps us warm and dry without big payments. These are just a few of the blessings we are thankful for. Remember, God still owns it all; we are just the caretakers while here on this earth.

Speaking of God, it may be a good time to get to know Him better. A closer walk with Him can be even more important in troubled times. What does your faith mean to you? Do you know the Manual (Bible) well enough to really understand why you believe what you claim to believe? Getting better grounded in the Good Book can really improve our relationship with Jesus. Now talk about ‘troubled-time’ insurance, it doesn’t get any better than that. We can do some things ourselves but when the going really gets tough it takes more than human strength. So our suggestion is say your prayers, study the Bible and let God keep you on track no matter how wild the ride. Just think – maybe the ride will be wild because it is so good!

Smile ? God loves you and so do we. Be blessed in 2009!

CLEANING HOUSE FOR 2009

Last week I threw out Worrying, it was getting old and in the way.
It kept me from being me; I couldn’t do things God’s way.

I threw out a book on My Past (didn’t have time to read it anyway).
Replaced it with NEW GOALS, started reading it today.

I threw out Hate and Bad Memories (remember how I treasured them so?)
Got me a NEW PHILOSOPHY too, threw out the one from long ago.

Brought in some new books too, called I CAN, I WILL, I MUST.
Threw out I Might, I Think and I Ought. WOW, you should’ve seen the dust!

I ran across an OLD FRIEND I hadn’t talked to in a while.
His name is GOD the Father, and I really like His style.

He helped me to do some cleaning and added some things Himself.
Like PRAYER, HOPE, FAITH and LOVE. Yes…I placed them right on the shelf.

I picked up this special thing and placed it at the front door.
I found it – it’s called PEACE. Nothing gets me down anymore.

Yes, I’ve got my house looking nice. Looks good around the place.
For things like Worry and Trouble there just isn’t any space.

It’s good to do a little house cleaning, get rid of the things on the shelf.
It sure makes things brighter; maybe you should try it YOURSELF.

Be Blessed and Be a Blessing to Someone Else!!

“Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank Him for all He has done. If you do this, you will experience God’s peace, which is far more wonderful than the human mind can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.”  Philippians 4:6, 7
