February, 2010 Newsletter

     So, how are those New Years resolutions coming along? Surveys show that most of us abandon our resolutions within the first few months of making them. Why is this? Do we set our goals too high? Do we attempt to do something beyond our abilities or talents? Are we trying to accomplish our objective on our own when the guidance and encouragement of a friend or mentor would be a great benefit? Or do we just become lazy and lose interest?

     Come to think of it, don’t these same attitudes often crop up in our spiritual lives? Wanting to reach the whole world with God’s message of love and hope is a wonderful goal – but it’s not realistic to think that I can do it all by myself. At one time my desire was to sing at church and chapel services, but problem was, though I love to sing, I’m not a good singer! And no amount of praying and practicing improved my ability because God didn’t bless me with musical talent. (Though I still receive much joy singing when I’m in my car or at home … alone!)

     Our wondrous God made each of us unique with special gifts and personalities to fulfill His purpose on this earth. Yet we try to do things our own way, going through life without His help and guidance. No wonder we get frustrated and discouraged! We’re trying to walk down a completely different path than we’re equipped to take.

     No one else on this earth is like you: a one of a kind masterpiece formed by God himself. Isn’t that amazing? And no one else can accomplish His purpose for you – God has planned out what He wants you to do with your life and only you can do it! So seek His will for your life. Read your Bible and pray. It doesn’t mean you won’t make mistakes or take a wrong turn off your path. But it will mean that God will gently guide you back to the right way – the way of peace, joy and contentment when you are following His will.

Suggested scripture reading – Psalm 139:1-18

A big “Thank you” to all who helped, donated and/or bid on items at our annual silent auction at the NHRA banquet. Final total isn’t in yet, but we estimate about $2,000 was raised to support DRAW and Racers For Christ.

HOW SHALL WE LIVE?

People are often unreasonable, illogical, and self-centered;
Forgive them anyway.

If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives;
Be kind anyway.

If you are successful, you will win some false friends and some true enemies;
Succeed anyway.

If you are honest and frank, people may cheat you;
Be honest and frank anyway.

What you spend years building, someone could destroy overnight;
Build anyway.

If you find serenity and happiness, they may be jealous;
Be happy anyway.

The good you do today, people will often forget tomorrow;
Do good anyway.

Give the world the best you have, and it may never be enough;
Give the world the best you’ve got anyway.

You see, in the final analysis, it is between you and God;
It was never between you and them anyway.
